Tropical
Sample II Oil and resin on acrylic cut, 40 cm diameter In the future, with developments in genetic crossing, someone like me might be half-human, half-orchid. 'Tropical Sample I' was a live orchid holding a shoe that died inexplicably: It came to London with me last January, living here for three months with central heating, electric light, and Evian water spray, healthy and adapted. I took it back with me at Easter and it died as soon as we arrived in Brazil. This event made me pose some questions: Why it died exactly when it returned to its original native environment? Is a work of art that died without intention still a work of art?It is interesting to note that the orchid preferred to attach in the shoe's elastic rather than to its leather. >more |
